Perceived impact of relocation of the displaced street- shop owners on traders’ psychoeconomic wellbeing in Ibadan metropolis

Abstract

The study examined perceived impact of relocation of the displaced street-shop owners on traders’ psycho-economic wellbeing in the city of Ibadan, Nigeria. A total number of one hundred and fifty displaced and relocated street-shop owners were purposively selected by the researchers for the study. The study adopted cross-sectional survey strategy and ex-post facto design. The mean age and standard deviation of the participant were 31yrs and 7.48 respectively. Three hypotheses were tested and the result showed; significant joint influence of age, sex and educational attainment on psycho-economic wellbeing of the relocated traders ( R² = .084, F = 9.042, p < .01), significant negative relationship between types of business/trade engage in by displaced traders and psycho-economic wellbeing (x=-21.74; df 15);p<.01) and significant positive relationship between perceived causes of displacement of street shops’ owners and psycho-economic wellbeing (x=52.4;df(4);p<.01). Implication of these results was discussed and recommendation made at the end of the study.
