The impact of work-stress on the psychological well being of social workers in a selected organization in Makurdi, Benue state

Abstract

This study assessed the impact of work stress on the psychological wellbeing of social workers in Makurdi, Benue State. The study adopted a survey design and purposively and randomly selected 148 participants. The study used a 32 item questionnaire as an instrument for data collection. The objective of the study was to among others; find out the impact of work-stress on psychological wellbeing of social workers in Makurdi, Benue state. ANOVA and Independent t-test statistics was used for analysis and test of the research hypotheses. Result from the analysis revealed that work-stress significantly influence the psychological well-being of social workers in Makurdi, Benue State. Secondly, result also showed that there is significant difference between the psychological wellbeing of social workers based on their marital status in Makurdi. Lastly the level of training received by a social worker significantly influence their psychological wellbeing in Makurdi. Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended that, the community and traditional leaders as well as the elites in communities where the services of social workers are required, should create a homely atmosphere for social workers to operate among other recommendations.
