Employee mentoring and workplace ploitics as predictors of job satisfaction among employees of NBC PLC Makurdi, Benue State

Abstract

The study assessed Employee mentoring and workplace politics as predictors of Job Satisfaction among employees of Nigerian Bottling Company (NBC) Plc, Makurdi. The objective of the paper was to among others, to ascertain the influence of workplace politics on employee job satisfaction among employees of NBC, Makurdi. A total of 155 participants took part in the study. This comprised 101(65.2%) males and 54(34%) were females. The study adopted a survey design in generating data for the study. The instrument used for data collection was the organizational politics scale developed by Kakmar & Ferris (1991), mentoring scale developed by Abdullahi Francis (2009). Also used is the job satisfaction scale developed by Scott, McDonald Peter, and Mclntyer (1997). Hypotheses were formulated for the study. Pearson product moment correlation and ANOVA statistics were used to analyse and the test of the hypotheses. Results from the analysis revealed that workplace politics predict job satisfaction among personnel of NBC Plc, Makurdi. Secondly, result revealed a relationship between employees mentoring and employee job satisfaction among the employees of NBC Plc Makurdi. Lastly, employee mentoring and workplace politics have a joint significant influence on employee job satisfaction among employees in NBC Plc Makurdi. Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended that, the management of NBC should motivate their employees to enhance commitment and optimal performance and productivity in the workplace. Heads of units and other older employees should help train new employees in their lines of duties in line with well designed job analysis in the organization.
