Teachers’ knowledge of pupil with learning disability in Ilorin South Local Government Area, Kwara State

Abstract

This study examined Teachers’ knowledge of pupil with learning disability in Ilorin South local government area, Kwara State. The study adopted a descriptive survey research design. 100 primary school teachers in both private and public schools in Ilorin south, Kwara State were selected to participate in this study, multi stage sampling technique was used to select the sample. The research instrument titled Test of Primary School Teachers’ Knowledge of Pupil with Learning Disability (TPSKLD) was used for data collection. The reliability index of TPSKLD was determined using Pearson Product Moment Correlation (PPMC) and it yielded 0.91. a research question and three research hypotheses were raised and formulated and tested in this study at 0.05 level of significance. Inferential statistics of t-test was used. The finding revealed teachers’ knowledge of pupil with learning disability in Ilorin South local government area, Kwara state is very low, there was a significant difference in teachers’ knowledge of pupil with learning disability in Ilorin South local government area, Kwara state based on gender (t = .713; df = 97; p< 0.05), there was a significant difference in teachers’ knowledge of pupil with learning disability in Ilorin South local government area, Kwara state based on school type (t = -1.301; df = 97; p<0.05), also, there was significant difference in teachers’ knowledge of pupil with learning disability in Ilorin South local government area, Kwara state based on specialization (t = -1.253; df = 97; p< 0.05). Based on the findings of this study, recommendations were made.
