Abstract

The study investigated the effect of cognitive modeling in the reduction of impulsive behaviour among primary school children. A total of twenty impulsive underachieving participants were randomly assigned to cognitive modeling and control groups. Different instruments comprising Impulsiveness Questionnaire for Children (IQFC), Impulsive Related Trait Questionnaire for Teachers (IRTQFT), Checklist on Impulsiveness in Children (CIIC) for parents and Achievement Tests in English and Mathematics were used for identification and evaluation at the pretreatment, post-treatment and follow-up periods. The experimental group was exposed to twelve sessions. The control group was left untreated. The result of the analysis shows that the treatment technique was superior to the control group. There was significant difference in the performance of the treated group and the control and finally, the result at a one-month follow-up showed a significant difference in reduction of impulsiveness.
