Abstract

English title: Soilless production of Oreochromis niloticus (Linnaeus, 1758) larvae in plastic tarpaulins tanks with biofloc

This study assessed the reproductive potential of Oreochromis niloticus in above-ground plastic-lined tanks integrated with a low-renewal biofloc system. Its aim was to promote a sustainable hatchery method suited to land and water constraints linked to the challenges of climate change. For this, three tarpaulins (8 × 2 × 1.75 m, water depth 0.9 m) were tested. In each tarp with a hapa (8 × 2 × 2 m), 16 males and 48 females with an average weight of 395.1 ± 22.7 g and 257.2 ± 39.6 g respectively (sex ratio 1 male: 3 females) were bred for 90 days. Larvae and mouthbrooding eggs were collected every 14 days. The results showed that the number of larvae harvested per tarp was between 13850.7 ± 2252.2 and 7415.3 ± 1173.6 from the beginning to the end of the test. Relative fecundity ranged from 1.0 ± 0.3 to 0.4 ± 0.1 larvae.g -1 .female-1 , absolute fecundity from 381.2 ± 45.5 to 148.3 ± 23.5 larvae.female-1 and the productivity of the system from 61.8 ± 10.1 to 33 ± 5.2 larvae.m−2 .day−1. These findings suggest that plastic-lined tanks combined with the biofloc system provide an effective solution for enhancing tilapia larval production while optimizing water management
