Abstract

This study investigated the relationship between student teachers' self evaluation and tutor evaluation of student-teachers' performance in teaching practice. The subjects were 45 final year N.C.E students on teaching practice in Kontagora town. Data was collected by using the approved college teaching practice assessment format both by the tutor (supervisor) and student self-evaluation. The collected data was analyzed by the means of t-test statistic and findings revealed that there is a significant difference between the mean self rating of student-teachers and that of their tutors. There was no significant difference between the self-rating of male and female students and those of Art and Science students. The discussion of results looked at the reasons for students' high self-rating and suggested benefits of using student teachers self-rating in the improvement of teacher education.
