Abstract

This study investigated the integration of entrepreneurship and financial literacy into Home Economics education and its impact on youth employability and self-sufficiency in the hospitality and tourism sectors in Nigeria. The research aimed to assess the current level of
integration, identify barriers to effective implementation, and propose strategies for enhancing the curriculum. A descriptive survey design was adopted, and the study was conducted in selected secondary schools and vocational institutions across Nigeria. A purposive sampling technique was used to select 400 participants, including students, teachers, and policymakers involved in Home Economics education. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire, validated by experts in the fields of Home Economics and education policy. Data analysis involved calculating the mean and standard deviation to summarize responses. The results revealed that while
entrepreneurship and financial literacy are present in the curriculum, their integration remains superficial, with limited practical application. Challenges identified include inadequate resources, insufficient teacher training, and a lack of real-world exposure for students. The study proposes several strategies to enhance the integration of these competencies, including curriculum reform,
improved teacher training, and stronger collaboration with industry stakeholders in the hospitality and tourism sectors.
