Abstract

The objective of this study was to determine the effect of aqueous Spilanthus acmella extract (SAEt) on nociception and inflammatory activity in mice and rats. Extract of Spilanthus acmella was administered orally and effect of different doses of the extract (150, 300 and 500 mg/kg body weight) on nociception in mice, and carageenan induced rat paw edema were studied. Hot plate method was used for the nociceptive activity, while diclofenac was used as standard reference drug for nociceptive study. Ibuprofen used as standard drug for anti-inflammatory studies. Results indicated that the aqueous extract of Spilanthus acmella exhibited anti-nociceptive and antiinflammatory activities in mice.
