Abstract

Crude extracts of n-hexane, ethylacetate and methanol of the root, stem bark, fruit and leaf of Garcinia parvifolia Miq were screened for their anti-plasmodial, antioxidant, cytotoxic and antimicrobial activities. Although most of the extracts showed anti-plasmodial activity, extract of roots and stem bark gave the strongest anti-plasmodial activities (IC 50 7, 88 and 4, 11 m g/ml). All extracts of plant parts showed anti-oxidant activities with IC 50 < 200 m g/ml although weak anti-oxidant activity compared to vitamin C and quercetine (positive controls). All extracts also showed cytotoxic activity with values of LC 50>1000 m g/ml. n-hexane extract of leaf and fruit did not shows anti-microbial activity, while n-hexane and ethylacetae extracts of stem bark, root and fruit showed strongest anti-microbial activity, especially to Staphyloccocus aureus.
