Abstract

The shift from industrial age (17th Century) to information age (21st Century) has led to information explosion in this 21st century. Therefore, this has resulted in tremendous advancement in Computer Systems Technology (CST), software engineering and telecommunications. Also, the resultant radical changes as well as advances in the techniques of data and information processing, storage, retrieval and dissemination in Nigeria within this 21st century is, no doubt, a revolution. The overview of the general level of deployment and application of CST in Nigeria is highlighted and the extent to which it is being used in support of information delivery and communication in science and technology were examined. Also, the survey of the deployment of computer system (CS) in south-east of Nigeria, and the importance of information technology (IT) devices to the general development of Nigerian economy and educational advancement are discussed. The paper concludes that for the full deployment of Computer System (CS) to every sector in Nigeria, Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) should as matter of urgency declare Information Communication Technology (ICT) an institutional priority with adequate funding and support.
