Abstract

This study on comparative economic analysis of yam minisett and ware yam production was conducted using 150 yam farmers as respondents. A structured questionnaire was used in collecting data from the yam farmers. Statistical tools such as frequency distribution, percentages, means and gross margin were used for the analysis of the data. The result shows a dominant male farming population (92%), full time (68%) with low education and mean age and household size of 50 years and 8 persons respectively. Further result showed that commercial production of seed yams through yam minisett is more profitable compared to the production of seed yam through ware yam. It was recommended that government should provide rural infrastructures to enhance both farm activities and welfare of the farmers to optimize yam production.
