Promoting reading in high schools: two practical approaches

Abstract

A brief history of the establishment of the Carnegie Medal is given. The benefits to pupils of introducing into schools, reading projects based on Shadowing Carnegie are noted. Two adaptations which have worked well in secondary schools in KwaZulu-Natal are briefly described.
