Igbinedion University Okada Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences is the official scientific publication of College of Pharmacy, Igbinedion University Okada (IUO), Edo State, Nigeria. It is an online international journal permitting free and unrestricted access to both the abstract and full-text of all published articles. The Journal is devoted to promoting rapid dissemination of research findings in pharmaceutical sciences, biomedical sciences and related disciplines.

AIMS AND SCOPE

Igbinedion University Okada Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences (abbreviated as: IUO J Pharm Sci) is an open access, multidisciplinary, international, peer review journal published by the College of Pharmacy, Igbinedion University, Okada, Edo State. It is a bi-annual (May and November) journal that publishes high quality scholarly manuscript in the field of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Medicinal plants and Biomedical research, but the subject areas are not limited to Ethnobotany, Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmacognosy, Pharmacology, Toxicology, Hospital and Clinical Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Microbiology, Biochemistry, Neurobiology, Nanotechnology, Immunology, Bioresources development and conservation.

Original Research Articles

A typical research article should not exceed 5000 words, excluding tables, figures and references. References should not exceed 40.

Manuscript structure

Manuscript must be type written (Times New Romans, Font size 12, double spacing with margin of 1 inch on all the sides) in impeccable British English.

All manuscripts to be submitted to Igbinedion University Okada Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences must be accompanied by a 1-paged Cover Letter stating in clear terms that:

  • the submitted manuscript is original, that it has not been previously published either in whole or part, or is being processed for another journal
  • that all authors contributed either financially or intellectually to the production of the manuscript, and
  • that all authors have read and approved the final version of the submitted manuscript.

Each Original Research Article must contain the following:

  1. Title Page

The title page must contain the full name(s) of all author(s) (First name, middle name followed by the last name), their affiliations. One of the authors must be designated as the corresponding author (asterisked), whose institutional email and telephone number must be contained in the cover page. The title page must be submitted as a separate document different from the rest of the manuscript.

Article Text

The article text should start from introduction to references and should not contain any information mentioned on the title page. The acknowledgement should also be excluded from the article text.

It is only the article text that will undergo peer-review process if found worthy of further processing by the Editorial Board.

The article text should contain the following:

  1. Abstract

Abstract should be a structured abstract containing (i) Background and aim, (ii) Methods, (iii) Results, (iv) Conclusions. It should not be more than 250 words and should be devoid of abbreviations. Following the abstract should be keywords of 3 to 6 words excluding the words in the title of the manuscript. Each keyword should be in a sentence case separated by a coma.

  1. Introduction

The introduction should provide adequate background for the study to be undertaken with reviews of relevant literatures. It should include the statement of research problems and clearly state the aims and objectives of the study. Exhaustive literature review is unnecessary.

  1. Materials and methods

Relevant materials, equipment, drugs, chemicals, the manufacturer’s name (where applicable) and location should be provided. The existing methods should be cited while modified and new methods should be described in details to enable reproducibility. Statement of ethical approval must be provided. In case the experiment involving humans or animals, authors must ensure that they obtain ethical approval from their Institutional Ethical Committee. Evidence of ethical approval may be demanded by the Editor-in-Chief if necessary.

  1. Results

The results should be written in terms of significance of the data with level of significance clearly stated and should not contain the discussion of the significance of the results.

The Tables and Figures with their titles in Times New Roman, font size 10, legends and footnotes as appropriate should be embedded in the results where the authors want them to be in the manuscript, and should be arranged numerically.

The results should be presented either as Table(s) or graph(s), and not both for the same result(s).

The Figures should be in JPEG with a minimum resolution of 300 dots per inch (dpi) for the grayscale (or black and white) and at least 600 dpi for color scale.

  1. Discussion

The discussions should interpret the results with logical deduction made. Comparison may be made with the existing published data. Authors should avoid exhaustive literature citations and discussion of published data.

  1. Conclusion

This section should in one paragraph summarizing the overall findings of the article and recommendations for further work on the subject matter of the research.

Acknowledgement (if any): Authors should acknowledge people who assisted in one way or the other but do not qualify to be a co-author. Other institutions where part of the research was undertaken and funding organisations may also be acknowledged. The acknowledgement should appear at the end of the article.

Conflict of interest statement: This should appear at the end of the article. Authors are required to disclose all financial and personal relationships that might give bias to their work. Where no conflict of interest exists, authors should state in clear terms that ‘Authors declare no conflict of interest’.

References:

References should be cited in the Vancouver version by consecutive numbers of their occurrence in the article text in bracket e. g. “the plant extract has been shown to inhibit the activity of acetylcholinesterase enzyme [5] or [5, 6] or [5-8] for one, two or more reference citations, or as “inhibition of the activity of acetylcholinesterase enzyme by the plant extract has been reported by Akinpelu and Igbe [5].

References should be listed following the same sequence as in the text under the Reference section.

Review Article

Review article submitted to IUO J Pharm Sci will be considered for editorial processing only when the author(s) has/have included his/their own research findings and substantial contribution.

The manuscript structure of the review articles is the same with the original research articles. Review articles should contain abstract and keywords, abstract should not exceed 300 words with no abbreviations and references should not exceed 80.

Short Communication

A Short Communication is a scholarly article giving the complete results of small scale investigations or details of new methods or hypotheses, techniques, apparatus or innovative methods. Short Communication should follow the format of original research articles when possible. Word limits should not exceed 2500 and the references should not exceed 25.

Case Reports

The Case Reports should include unstructured abstract of not more than 150 words. The format of the Case Report should be: Introduction, Case presentation, Discussion, Acknowledgement and References. The word limit for Case Reports should not exceed 2000 words and 25 references.

PEER REVIEW PROCESS

Upon submission of an article, the Editor-in-Chief screens the manuscript for originality, and manuscript with similarity index of more than 25% are rejected. If the manuscript is considered of scientific interest, it shall be sent back to the corresponding author to reduce the similarity index to an acceptable level. Manuscripts with sufficient originality will be sent for peer-review by at least two expert reviewers of international repute. The decision of the reviewers will be communicated to the corresponding author via email attachments. If the manuscript is not rejected, then the author(s) must address all the areas of concerns as requested by the reviewers within the stipulated time before the manuscript can be accepted. Upon acceptance, a galley proof of the manuscript will be sent to the corresponding author, who is to indicate the areas of correction within a stipulated time. After receipt of the galley proof from the corresponding author, and the payment of the article processing charge, the accepted article will be published online by IUO J Pharm Sci.

Copyright transfer

Submission of manuscript to IUO J Pharm Sci implies the transfer of copyright holder to the Journal upon acceptance and publication of the manuscript.

Article processing charges (APC)

IUO J Pharm Sci does not charge submission fees, but charges 20,000 NGN within Nigeria or $50 (for foreign authors) per manuscript upon acceptance by the Journal. However, the APC is subject to periodic review to sustain journal quality and production.
