Abstract

This paper is a quantitative study of the structure of collaboration in Journal of the Association of Nigerian Musicologists (JANIM) in a bid to determine collaboration patterns, authorship trends, and the degree of collaboration among authors over a period of ten years. 197 articles published in the journal from 2009 to 2018 were analyzed using bibliometric analysis method. The findings indicate a progressive increase in two-author collaboration mostly between those from the same geographical location, and only a single case of international collaboration; one article had three authors, one article had five authors, but there was no article written by four authors. In the articles reviewed, the years 2016 and 2018 had articles with the highest number of author collaborations. This study, therefore, calls for a balance and re-evaluation of the factors limiting collaborative research while extolling the advantages of collaboration in research.
