Comparison of alternative methods of estimating California Bearing Ratio (CBR)

Abstract

Alternative methods of estimating California Bearing Ratio (CBR) based on equations, numerical data, tables and charts have been evaluated and compared. All the methods were found to be accurate and reliable, and cou-ld be used in developing countries where equipment and skilled operators might be lacking. A high correlation was found to exist between Harison's Dynamic Cone Penetrometer (DCP) and Grant's DCP values with a coeff-icient of 0.7. For ease of reference, additional data, tables, graphs and charts were developed as guide for estim-ating CBR.
