Herbal solution to the treatment of tuberculosis infection in Kaduna south local government, Kaduna, Nigeria

Abstract

This paper examined the use of medicinal plants in the treatment of Tuberculosis in Kaduna south local government area in Kaduna state, Nigeria. Eighty randomly selected respondents comprising of 80 structure questionnaire were administered to traditional healer, herbs trader, farmers and civil servants in the Local Government were interviewed on the use of forest plants in the treatment of tuberculosis. Descriptive analysis such as frequency tables was used for the analysis. The result showed that Acacia albida, Adonsonia digitata, Acacia nilotica, Acacia hebecladoides, Allium sativum, Anogesisus leocarpus, Piliostigima reticulatum, Moringa olifera and Tamarindus indica were the medicinal plants used for treating tuberculosis. In conclusion, this study has proved that Local people have a wealth of knowledge that need to be the focal point in much of forestry, parasitological and Pharmaceutical researches.
