Abstract

The study examined the nature, pattern, and purpose of use of social media by
university lecturers in selected universities in Southwest Nigeria. The descriptive survey research design was adopted and the multistage sampling technique was used. A questionnaire was used and six research questions were answered. Data was analysed using descriptive statistics.

Findings revealed that there was high level use of social media among the lecturers
surveyed with Facebook and YouTube being the most frequently used. The study could help university administrators and education planners to identify the social media being used by academic staff and as such look for ways to help them integrate into their teaching and research activities.
