Technologies Extended To Women Farmers in Abia State, Nigeria

Abstract

This study was designed to investigate the present technologies extended to women farmers through Home economics extension programmes and the problems militating against the use of technologies by the women farmers.Possible ways of solving the problem of women farmers were also highlighted. The population for the study consisted of all the extension agents and the rural women farmers in the three agricultural zones in Abia State. Cluster sampling technique was used to select 360 subjects from the population of women farmers in the agricultural zone. Questionnaires were used for data collection.Data were analysed using percentages and mean. Findings of the study revealed that eight technologies were extended to women farmers and three problems were identified as hindrance to the use of extended technologies by the women farmers. Based on the findings, four recommendations for enhancing Home Economics extension programmes were made.
