Abstract

The work determined some mechanical properties of fresh and matured concrete. These properties include Slump, Compressive Strength, Static modulus of elasticity and Modulus of rigidity. It applied Scheffe’s optimization theory to determine the ratio of the combined constituents of the concrete mix. The results showed that an optimal compressive strength of 45 .49 / mm2 with a mix composition of cement: fine aggregate: mound soil; coarse aggregate: water cement ratio of 1: 1: 0.5: 2: 0.5. The result also show that mound soil concrete is 6.25% denser than plain concrete. The paper recommends mound soil concrete for structures where the density of concrete is of paramount interest.
