An Alternative to the Basket Weaving Method of Finding The Determinant of a Matrix

Abstract

Basket weaving method is a special trick of finding the determinant of a 3x3matrix. But to use the method one must extend the matrix to 3x5 . In this paper, we propose a method called triple cancellation method for finding the determinant of a 3x3matrix which can be used directly without the need of extending the matrix to35 .
