Effects of static pre-loading on the dynamic stability of a column on nonlinear foundations stressed by a step load
AbstractThis paper presents, from strictly analytical consideration, the dynamic analysis of a finite column stressed by a step load but in the presence of a previously imposed static load. The results show that (a) the dynamic buckling load for this type of loading is relatively higher than that of a similar column stressed by a step load without pre-static loading. Thus, the step load provides a lower bound for such loads (b) it is possible to relate the dynamic buckling load to its static equivalent and thereby by-passing the labour of repeating the entire process for different imperfection parameters.
