Abstract

The stability characteristics of five brands of commercially available chloroquine phosphate syrups in Nigeria have been evaluated in vitro. The parameters employed in the assessment included organoleptic properties, presence of particulate matter, pH, specific gravity, rheology, microbial growth and concentration of active constituent. Accelerated stability studies were also carried out to validate the asserted expiration dates. All the products possessed acceptable physico-chemical properties, while two samples showed evidence of microbial contamination.

Key words: Evaluation, chloroquine phosphate, stability, accelerated stability tests, physico-chemical properties.
