Abstract

The pesticidal activities of extracts of neem leaves, barks, and seeds were tested on some common insects of stored products, such as beans, rice and maize weevils to determine the efficacy of the extracts. The materials were extracted using soxhlet extraction, with 35 ml each of petroleum ether and acetone for pure extraction. Ten life rice, beans, and maize weevils each were exposed separately to the different extracts. The bark extracts was found to kill all the weevils instantly on contact showing 100 % efficacy. The leaf extracts killed 50% of the beans weevils, 40% of the rice weevils and 80% of the maize weevils, while the seed extracts killed 60% of the beans weevils, 90% of the rice weevils and 80% of the maize weevils.
