Measurment and Reporting of Comprehensive Income: Search, Challenges, Dilemma and Prospects

Abstract

The measurement and reporting of income that is comprehensive enough to represent the realities of periods of stable and unstable economic situation and satisfies varied users’ needs have posed enormous challenges to the accounting profession and remains a subject of intensive and unending debates. This work covers the various efforts in the search of alternatives to historical accounting for the measurement that produces such a comprehensive income, using different bases of assets valuation models, while also clearly identifying the challenges, dilemmas and prospects of such efforts, particularly in the perspective of Nigerian.
