The Influence Of Parental Background On Academic Performance Of Secondary School Students

Abstract



This study was carried out to examine the relationship between parental background and academic performance of secondary school students. It was hypothesized that there is no significant difference between the academic performance of students from high socio-economic status background and those from low SES backgrounds, also there is no significant difference between the academic performance of students form intact homes and the broken homes. Two instruments were used to elicit information, upon the analysis of the results recommendations were made thus: Government should do all in its power to bridge the economic gap amongst her citizens. Implementation of certain government policies such as the poverty alleviation programme should be closely monitored to ensure that those who are really poor benefit (2) church leaders as well as ministry of women affair should organize regular seminars and intimate the people of the danger inherent in broken homes and the need to maintain intact families as to enhance students academic performance and healthy development.
