Incidence Of Poverty In Nigeria: Causes And Consequences

Abstract



At the turn of 21st century, after nearly forty eight years of Independence, Nigeria is by all standard of measurement, a very poor country. Poverty is wide and deep in Nigeria. This paper therefore, examines the incidence of poverty in Nigeria, causes and consequences. Much of the problems which created poverty is structural with its effects on the state and the people. To get out of the malaise, these structures must be changed for the betterment of both the polity and entire citizenry. Let there be socio-economic empowerment.
