The Relevance Of Research And Development (R&D) Programmes Of Nigerian Universities In National Development

Abstract



The purpose of this study was to assess the relevance of Research and Development (R&D) programmes of Nigerian universities in national development. Data was collected form 432 senior academic staff of five selected universities in Nigeria. Indicators of relevance such as quality, results, dissemination, utilization and efficiency of R&D results were investigated. Results indicated that majority of the respondents perceived R&D programmes of the universities were relevant to national development. Result of correlation analysis indicated there were significant correlation between relevance of R&D and its contribution to national development. The study concluded that R&D programmes of the universities are vital to national development. It further recommended the need for a well articulated and focused R&D agenda in the country
