Extent of achievement of the objectives of ICT application in the accreditation of university programmes

Abstract

The paper examined extent of achievement of the objectives of ICT application in the accreditation of university programmes. Data were collected with the aid of a structured questionnaire from 381 randomly selected respondents (Deans and Heads of Departments) in the study area. Data analysis was by use of Mean score and Z test. Findings of the study revealed that the objectives of ICT application in accreditation of programmes in Universities South – South Nigeria have been realized to a moderate extent. ICT application of all processes employed by the Universities management, to a high extent, has made the accreditation of programmes easy. It was found that there is no significant difference between the opinions of Deans and Heads of Department on the use of ICT application in the accreditation of programmes and ranking of Universities. It was recommended that efforts should be made by Universities in South-South geopolitical zone to link all buildings in campuses to the internet via wireless devices. More staff should be given ICT application training to provide them with the basic foundation knowledge for competitive advantage in their chosen careers. The universal and high speed connectivity of ICT application achieved should be upgraded to boost the present level.
