Abstract

The preference of the youths in Aukpa-Adoka village revealed that education and agriculture are important means of livelihood in the village. Education which is deep and wide knowledge gained through reading and study in an educational institution enables an individual to be certificated and employable in various fields of life in order to earn living. Though income is generated more from agriculture in the village, the youths preferred to go for education. This is because education encourages self-independence/freedom. Also, engaging in educational activities does not lead to old age quickly as compared to physically strenuous agricultural activities. However on the basis of usefulness in the village, agriculture was considered more useful than education. Other means of livelihood existing in the village but of lesser importance to the youths are trading and sports.
