Factors responsible for accidents in instructional mechanic workshops in rivers state, Nigeria

Abstract

The Study investigated the factors responsible for accidents in instructional mechanic workshops in Rivers State. Four technical colleges were selected for the study. Properly validated questionnaire were developed and used for the study. In addition, two research questions were posed for the study. Data gathered were subjected to analysis using mean. The results revealed that, the use of dead or bad machines, non availability of sophisticated tools, equipment, dirty environment, improper arrangements and insufficient ventilation in the workshops, carelessness on the part of workers, failure to adhere to safety rules and regulations, improper use of machines and equipment, lack of skills and inadequate training among workers, irregular servicing of tools and equipment and wrong procedures to practical jobs are some of the causes responsible for accidents in instructional mechanic workshops in Rivers State. Based on these findings, some recommendations were made.
