Abstract

The performances of three different varieties of improved upland rice (ITA 257; EX-CHINA; ITA 315) were evaluated in a 2 year study under Abakaliki environmental condition. The design of the experiment was a randomized complete Block Design with 3 replications. ITA 315 and EX-China, on the average, had greater number of tillers than ITA 257. It was similarly observed that the yield was higher in ITA 315 and Ex-china than ITA 257 indicating that both ITA 315 and Ex-china perform better on the soil environment studied. It is recommended that the resource poor farmers adopt the production of ITA 315.
