La symbolique des attributs de l’art royal Aboure de la Cote d’Ivoire

Abstract

En Afrique, dans les sociétés de tradition royale, il existe des oeuvres d’art spécifiques qui organisent la hiérarchie sociale. Ces créations soulignent la démarcation et restent le socle de la pensée créatrice. Pour ces peuples sans écriture, la production artistique est le moyen privilégié d’expression. Chez les Abouré, le roi possède des attributs1 et la royauté est considérée comme une institution. Le roi régule la société et la discipline dans l’intérêt de tous. L’art royal s’est brillamment illustré à travers des représentations plastiques et retrace l’histoire de la communauté, les mythes et les légendes d’un passé fabuleux. En effet, le roi fait son apparition aux grandes cérémonies paré de ces attributs. Nous exposons le processus de création et le symbole de ces oeuvres qui le distinguent. Ainsi, ces objets d’art sacrés, leurs contenus seront transcrits pour la postérité. Les objets d’art transportent l’idéologie du peuple Abouré. C’est donc une information que nous livrons, qui éclair sur la fonction de quelques attributs royaux et leur rapport avec la société Abouré. Nous sommes rendu compte que le sens des attributs royaux dévoile le fondement de l’institution royale Abouré.

English Title: Symbolism of attributes of Aboure royal art from Côte D’ivoire

English Abstract

In Africa, in societies of royal tradition, there are specific works of art which organize social hierarchy. These creations underline the demarcation and remain the foundation of the creative thought. For these peoples without any writing, the artistic production is the means of expression favoured. With the Aboure, the king owns attributes1, and kingship is considered as an institution. The king reigns over society and enforces discipline in the interest of everyone. The royal art became renowned through plastic representations, and tells of the history of the community, the myths and legends of a glorious past. Indeed, the king makes his appearance at great ceremonies attired in his attributes. We are exposing the creation process and the symbolism of these works. Thus, these sacred art objects, their contents will be transcribed for posterity. Art objects convey the Aboure people’s ideology. Therefore, we are revealing a piece of information, which enlightens on the function of a few royal attributes and their bearing on the Aboure society. We realize that the meaning of royal attributes unveils the foundation of the Aboure royal institution.
