Material and Method: It was an open prospective study based on 66 epileptic out of stable and homogeneous 9753 populations share out into 13 villages. The screen was made on august 2008 and oriented in three axes: the epileptics, the nursing staff and the Phenobarbital management used as a reference AED in rural area.
Results: The average age was 25.26 years old. Seizures were regular in 12.1% and the therapeutic gap was 12.1%. The treatment was regularly took by 71.5%. The side effects were tired in 13.6% and drowsiness in 50%. The treatment cost had been estimated at 7420 CFA per epileptic in a year.
Conclusion: Phenobarbital is an easy obtainable and handling drug with cheaper cost in the care of epilepsy in rural area.

Conclusion : Le phénobarbital est une
