Discussion et reconnaissance

Abstract

Cetarticle essaie de montrer que le principe de la reconnaissance et le principe de la discussion ne s’excluent pas. Ils sont au contraire entrelacés dans la mesure où sans l’institutionnalisation du principe de la discussion sous la forme de la politique délibérative et d’un système de droits qui garantissent à tout un chacun la poursuite de sa conception particulière du bien, la demande de reconnaissance ne peut être satisfaite. A partir de la perspective de l’éthique procédurale de la discussion, l’article met l’accent sur une forme de reconnaissance à laquelle l’éthique de la reconnaissance reste peu attentive. Il s’agit de la reconnaissance publique où les sujets sociaux désirent être reconnus comme personnes devant être entendues et capables de prendre position sur qui se passe dans la communauté et sur ce qui doit être. Ce faisant, l’article tente de renouveler la discussion éthique sur le juste.

This paper tries to show that the principle of recognition and the principle underlying discourse ethics are not mutually exclusive. On the contrary, they are intertwined, in that without the institutionalization of the principle of discourse in the form of deliberative politics and of a system of rights that give each and every one an assurance of the pursuit of one’s particular conception of the good, the exigency of recognition cannot be satisfied. Starting from the project of discourse ethics, the paper puts an accent on a form of recognition which often escapes the attention of the recognition-based ethics; this is public recognition, where the participants in communicative exchange want to be recognized as persons to be heard and persons capable of taking position on what happens in the community and on what should be. In this way, the paper tries to renew ethical discussion on the just.
