Focus and Scope

The journal publishes original articles and book reviews in English on archival science, records management, information science and oral history. Emphasis is on empirical research. However, opinion papers and articles of high quality on theoretical aspects will be considered. The focus is on research results, case studies and reports of innovative projects. This journal is especially useful by professionals, academics and students in the archives, heritage, museum and records management fields.

Peer Review Process

Review is blind - normally 2 to 3 reviewers per manuscript. No reviewer is required to review more than two papers per issue. Reviewers are requested to mentor authors by providing feedback on how to improve the submission and to determine whether or not a paper is fit for publication. Reviewers are provided with reviewer guidelines.


Open Access Policy

This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.

The South African Society of Archivists accepts advertising in its journal SA Archives Journal. The rates for advertisements are:

  • Full Page: R2600.00
  • Half Page: R1800.00

SASA also accept inserts for mailing with the Journal. The charge for inserts is R2000.00 per item. Inserts are limited to two sheets of A5 size or smaller, pre-folded and ready to insert. A discount of 15% applies for each repeat of an identical advertisement in subsequent issues, paid for at the same time.
