The value of exhibition in university libraries: a case study of the University of Lagos

Abstract

Educational exhibition is described as a powerful means of advertising the services and educational values of the university in general and the library in particular. The importance of adequate planning and organization for good exhibition are highlighted. Types, objectives and the names of exhibitors of exhibitions mounted in the Education and Main Library of the University of Lagos from 1969-1999 are listed; to determine the distribution of the most frequently exhibited subjects. The outstanding exhibitors were the Boulos Library, Kodak (Photographic), Nigeria Library Association, The Main Library and Education Library, Outstanding Personalities, Clubs and Associations. The major problems envisaged by exhibitors were mentioned and examined. The paper gives recommendations for better exhibitions.
