Empowering University Students through Physical Fitness for Lifetime Productivity

Abstract

This paper reports the findings of a study that investigated 252 University of Ilorin students’ awareness of the benefits of physical fitness and the need for empowering them for lifetime productivity. Data were collected using a self developed questionnaire and analysed using frequency counts, percentage and chi-square. It reports that students are aware of the benefits inherent in
healthy fitness lifestyles and that they know that stress in academics can be reduced and productivity can be enhanced by maintaining a lifestyle of physical activity. Ironically, many of the students were found to be vicarious participants in sports. The students expressed need for a health and fitness facilities.
