With political will and policy change, an alternative can be found

Enver Motala

Abstract

The author distinguishes between two views on the possibility of free higher education; those who are against or sceptical about funding free higher education for all and those who think it is eminently possible to do so. At an IFAA forum on the university fees crisis he called the former ‘a-historical, pragmatist and conservative’. The following version of his presentation is to be published in the forthcoming issue of Education as Change.
