Determinants of Cassava Farmers’ Perception on Soil App Technology for Soil Nutrient Assessment in Odeda Local Government Area of Ogun State, Nigeria
Abstract
This study investigated the perception of cassava farmers on soil app technology for soil nutrient assessment in Odeda local government area of Ogun State, Nigeria. The study employed a purposive sampling technique to select 180 cassava farmers who were registered with Ogun State Agricultural Development Programme (OGADEP), while an interview guide was used to obtain primary data from the farmers. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics (frequency, percentage, and mean) and inferential statistics (Multiple Linear Regression). Results showed that 55.6% of the respondents were male, with an average age of 42.09 years and a mean of 10.39 years for farming experience. Results further showed that only 21.7% and 7.7% of the farmers had a high level of awareness and knowledge about soil app technology, respectively. Also, results showed that a little bit above average (52.2%) had a positive perception towards the use of the technology. Factors such as age of the farmer (B = 0.0074), knowledge of soil app (0.540), and awareness of technology (2.227) influenced the perceptions of the farmers on the use of soil app technology. Study concluded that the farmers had a moderate perception of soil app technology influenced by their age, awareness, and knowledge of the technology. It is therefore recommended that adequate training should be provided for the farmers to improve their awareness and knowledge about the technology.
