Warehousing Management Systems and Sales Sustainability of Rice Distributors in Ebonyi State, Nigeria
Abstract
This study examined the influence of warehousing management systems on the sales sustainability of rice distributors in Ebonyi State, Nigeria. A multistage random sampling technique was used to select 120 rice distributors. Data were collected through questionnaires, interviews, and observation, and analyzed using descriptive statistics, a sales sustainability index, and Spearman's correlation. Findings revealed that most distributors (58.3%) used traditional warehousing systems, while 41.7% used modern systems. The most critical factor influencing the choice of warehouse was cost (41.7%). Sales sustainability was significantly higher among modern system users: 92% had a sustainability index between 76% and 100%, compared with only 24% of traditional system users. A correlation analysis showed a positive relationship (r = 0.6, p < 0.01) between warehousing and sales sustainability. The study recommends promoting modern warehousing systems through enlightenment programs and improving traditional storage practices through better ventilation and pest control.
