Multimedia Learning Awareness and Utilization among Rural Secondary School Teachers in Abia State, Nigeria
Abstract
The study assessed teachers’ awareness and utilization of multimedia learning presentations for effective instructional delivery in rural public secondary schools in Abia State, Nigeria. Specifically, the study assessed teachers’ level of awareness of multimedia learning presentation for effective instructional delivery in rural public secondary schools in Abia State, and determined teachers’ level of utilization of multimedia learning presentation for effective instructional delivery in rural public secondary schools in Abia State. A descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. The population comprised teachers in rural public secondary schools in Abia State, while a purposive sampling technique was used to select 120 teachers. Data were collected using a researcher-developed questionnaire titled Teachers’ Awareness and Utilization of Multimedia Learning Presentation for Effective Instructional Delivery in Rural Public Secondary Schools in Abia State (TAUMLPEIDRPSSAS). Mean and standard deviation were used to answer the research questions, while the t-test was used to test the null hypotheses at a 0.05 level of significance. The results showed that teachers’ level of awareness and utilization of multimedia learning presentations as a mobile learning system was low across all measured items. There was no significant difference between the mean responses of male and female teachers on awareness and utilization of multimedia learning presentations as a mobile learning system. The study concluded that teachers in rural public secondary schools in Abia State possessed inadequate awareness and made minimal use of multimedia learning presentations as a mobile learning system. The study recommended regular professional development programmes, improved ICT infrastructure, and supportive school policies to enhance teachers’ awareness and effective utilization of multimedia learning presentations as a mobile learning system in rural schools.
