Composition and Production of Water Sanitizer

Abstract

Water Sanitizer was formulated and compounded into tablets for easy use. Each tablet contained 400mg of the compounded chemicals. The effectiveness of sanitizer formula was evaluated, and it compared favourably microbiologically and chemically with imported commercial sample.
The results showed that microbiologically, the Sanitizer performed very well in the removal of Total plate counts (from 3x103 to nil), Yeast and mould count (from 1x102 to nil), staphylococcus count (from 3x102 to nil) and coliform count (from 1x102 to nil), while chemically it reduced magnesium hardness from 15.0mg/l to 8.40mg/l, Nitrate from 1.71mg/l to 0.02mg/l, ammoniacal Nitrogen from 2.62mg to 0.02mg/l and suspended solids from 42.mg/l to 0.02mg/l.
