The Evaluation of School Guidance and Counselling Services in Zimbabwe

R Chireshe

Abstract

This paper sought to establish the status of the Zimbabwean School Guidance and Counselling Services (SGC services) evaluation from school counsellors’ perspectives. A descriptive survey design was used. A questionnaire was administered to 314 participants. The SAS/STAT version 9.1 was used to analyse the data. Chi-square tests were computed. Ratios were calculated to
establish the relative rating of each item. The study revealed that evaluation for SGC services was seldom done. Parents, students and the psychological team were seldom involved. Key assessment methods like tests and questionnaires are not always used. Formative evaluation is not
frequently used and issues addressed in the evaluation are not very clear. Recommendations for improving the evaluation of SGC services were made.
