Physical environmental factors as determinants of learning abilities of the disabled children

Abstract



This study focused on peculiarities of physical environments as determinants of learning abilities of the disabled children in schools. Physical environment of the school incorporates the school environment, all buildings and other structures therein. The disabled pupils have their limitations in learning as determined by certain environmental factors. This study investigated such physical environmental variables that impede effective learning by the disabled. This study adopted a descriptive survey method where sixty (60) teachers of the disabled pupils were randomly sampled from five (5) Special Schools and one Home/School for the disabled in three (3) different cities. A 5-point rating scale was adopted for the study to score the responses of the subjects. Chi- square statistics was used for analysing the data. Results of the findings were fully discussed and conclusion was drawn.
