Reforms in Nigerian education sector: Implications for Science and Technology Education

Abstract

This paper examines the state of Education in Nigeria, the current educational reforms and their implications for science and technology education. It reviews various score sheets for the state of the countries educational system pointing to indicators of the system being inefficient, and attendantly calling for a reformation. The paper looks into the present educational reforms and reveals that all the federal government policies on educational reforms since 1999 have been informed and dictated by the goals of the National Economic Empowerment and Development Strategy (NEEDS) and the Millennium Development Goals (MDGS.) Its implications for the rejuvenation of science and technology teaching and learning in the country. It concludes that educational reforms are necessary in the life of any development oriented social system.
