Orin Kúlúńbú: Ọnà Ìfiniṣẹ̀fẹ̀ àti Ìjánu Àwùjọ ní Ìlú Ọjà-Ọ̀dàn Yewa

Abstract

Ṣaájú kí àwọn Òyìnbó tó dé ilẹ̀ Adúláwọ̀ pàápàá ilẹ̀ Yorùbá, onírúurú isẹ́-ọnà ajẹmọ́- ìpohùn ni ó wà ní agbègbè kọ̀ọ̀kan tí wọ́n sì máa ń wà bí ohun ìdámọ̀ fún agbègbè tí wọ́n bá ti ń lò wọ́n. Ọ̀kan nínú àwọn iṣẹ́-ọnà ajemọ́-ìpohùn yìí ni orin jẹ́ láàárín àwọn ẹ̀yà Yorùbá, ó sì wà fún ìnàjú, ìdánilárayá àti ìkọ́nilẹ́kọ̀ọ́ . Èyí ni ó máa ń mú kí àwùjọ àwọn Yorùbá ní ìfẹ́ sí orin kíkọ níbikíbi, nígbàkúùgbà àti lórí ohunkóhun. Ọ̀kan nínú àwọn orin ìbílẹ̀ Yorùbá tí ó gbajúmọ̀ láàárín àwọn ènìyàn ìlú Ọ̀jà-Ọ̀dàn ni orin Kúlúḿbú tí ó jẹ orin ajemọ́-eré-oníṣe, tí ó sì tún jẹ mọ́ ìfiniṣẹ̀ fẹ̀ . Ìlépa iṣẹ́ yìí ni láti ṣe àfihàn orin Kúlúńbú ní ìlú Ọjà-Ọ̀dàn gẹ́gẹ́ bí ọnà ìṣèré ìpohùn Yorùbá, kí a ṣe ìtúpalẹ̀ àwọn àkóónú rẹ̀ , kí á sì tọ́ka sí àwọn irúfẹ́ ọnà ìfiniṣẹ̀ fẹ̀ inú orin yìí pẹ̀lú ọ̀nà tí ó ń gbà fọ àwùjọ mọ́ . A ṣe àkójọ àwọn orin Kúlúḿbú tí a lò ní ìlú Ọ̀jà-Ọ̀dàn ní agbègbè Yewa ní ìpínlè Ogun ní orílẹ̀-èdè Nàìjíríà. A ṣe òfintótó ìṣèré orin yìí, a sì kópa nínú ìgbékalẹ̀ orin náà. A ṣe àfàyọ àwọn àbùdá eré-oníṣe àti ọnà ìfiniṣẹ̀ fẹ̀ tí ó ń jẹ yọ nínú àgbékalẹ̀ orin Kúlúḿbú àti ipa rẹ̀ lórí àwọn ènìyàn àwùjọ. Iṣẹ́ yìí ṣe àfihàn àwọn ẹ̀yà Yorùbá Yewa gẹ́gẹ́ bí alárògún àti oníṣẹ́-ọnà ajẹmọ́-ìpohùn, ó sì tọ́ka sí bí wọ́n ṣe ń lo orin Kúlúńbú fún ìtọ́sọ́nà ètò ìgbé-ayé wọn, ọ̀nà ìjánu àwùjọ àti fún ìdàgbàsókè àwùjọ wọn. Iṣẹ́ yìí fi ìdí rẹ̀ múlẹ̀ pé, iṣẹ́-ọnà láàárín àwọn Yorùbá ń dàgbà sókè lójoojúmọ́ àti pé ìyípadà ọ̀ tun ni orin Kúlúḿbú ń mú bá agbègbè tí ó ti ń wáyé. Èyí ni ó sì yẹ kí ó jẹ́ àwòkọ́ṣe fún àwọn oníṣé-ọnà káàkiri ilẹ̀ Yorùbá àti gbogbo àgbáyé.

Before the arrival of white-men in Africa, most especially Yorùbá land, there were numerous Yoruba verbal arts which serve as symbol of identity of each communities. Song is one of these verbal arts among Yorùbá people and it is purposively for enjoyment, entertainment and moral teaching. This is why Yorùbá people have much interest in singing at anywhere, anytime and on anything. One of Yorùbá traditional songs that is popular among Yorùbá people of Ọ̀jà-Ọ̀dàn is Kúlúńbú song which is a dramatic and satirical song. The focus of this paper is to showcase Kúlúńbú song in Ọ̀jà-Ọ̀dàn as a form of Yoruba oral performance, analyse its thematic contents, identify its satirical styles and examine its social purification concepts. The Kúlúńbú songs were collected from Ọ̀jà-Ọ̀dàn, Yewa area, Ogun state. The performance of the songs was investigated with the researcher’s participation in the presentation. The dramatic features and satirical styles of Kúlúńbú songs and its effects on the society were identified. This work portrays Yewa Yorùbá people as philosophical verbal artists and also shows how Kúlúńbú song is being used for guidance and development of their society. This work concludes that verbal art among Yorùbá people is growing time to time, and Kúlúńbú songs facilitate positve change in the society. This is the reason it supposed to be seen as exemplary form for other verbal artist in Yorùbáland and the world at large.
