Total Hip Replacement as a Treatment Option for Osteoarthritis of the Hip: 10 Consecutive Cases. The National Orthopaedic Hospital, Dala Kano Experience.

Abstract



As the age of the population increases, total hip arthroplasty as a treatment option for osteoarthritis will assume greater significance. The aim of this study is to document the problems encountered with total hip arthroplasty in treating patients with
osfeoarthrifis ofthe hip at the National Orthropaedic Hospital, Dala Kanso thestudy is aretrospecture review of 10 consequtive Cases of total hip arthroplasty done for patients with osfeoarthritis of the hip. The mean duration for patients on the waiting list before
admission into the hospital is 37.2 weeks. The average cost of implant is N257,780.00. Three patients had serious adverse events that required revision surgery. A National hip arthroplasty register is advocated to document possible problems encountered and to improve the outcome of total hip arthroplasty.
