Subjective sleep quality survey on public servants in Delta State

Abstract

The purpose of the study was to determine the subjective sleep quality of public servants and its resulting effect on the job of the public servant. A descriptive cross sectional method was used to administer, Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) a self-report questionnaire and a questionnaire designed by the researchers that measures certain quality of life that relates to work performance to the participants. Four hundred and fifteen participants were randomly selected from federal and state ministries, parastatals and hospitals. Data was analyzed using Epi info version 7. Only 387 questionnaires were properly and completely filled. Result shows that 178 participants have good sleep (PSQI score ≤ 5) and 209 poor sleep (PSQI score ≥ 5), Poor sleep was determined majorly by sleep latency, sleep duration and sleep disturbances. It was also found that, poor sleep have relationship with work performance of workers.
