Abstract

Background:
Penile amputation is an uncommon injury resulting from self-mutilation, felonious assault or accidental trauma1. The use of tubed groin skin flap is a multistage procedure. It has the advantage of proximity to the pubic region. It finds its use in places with a deficiency of expertise in micro vascular techniques. We intend to share our experience of this modality of reconstruction. Patient: The case of a 13 years old boy who sustained total penile amputation following road traffic accident is presented. We carried out a multi-staged reconstruction of the penis with tubed groin skin flap. The rationale for our choice
of reconstruction methods over others is presented and discussed. Results: Two months post-discharge, patient was able to pass urine through the neo-urethra. He is being followed up. Conclusion: The advantage of this flap includes its proximity to the pubic area, relatively hair less donor skin with good colour and texture for penile reconstruction.

Keywords: penile amputation, penile reconstruction, tubed pedicled groin flap.
